On Nov. 1st 1977, the Faculty of Shari’ah started, at first, as a minor department which used to offer some assisting courses in the Faculty of Humanities. Later, in 1980, it started to be an independent department which offered the bachelor’s degree in Islamic Studies. Then in 1985, it started to offer postgraduate studies in Jurisprudence and Legislation; thus, it was named the Department of Jurisprudence and Legislation.
In 1991, the department was developed to turn into an independent faculty, The Faculty of Shari’ah, which offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the two departments: The Department of Jurisprudence and Legislation, and the Department of the Fundamentals of Religion.
In 2006, the faculty established a third department which is the Department of Islamic Banking. Thus, the faculty comprises three main departments that offer undergraduate and postgraduate studies which are:
- The Department of Jurisprudence and Legislation
- The Department of the Fundamentals of Religion
- The Department of Islamic Banking
